Low-maintenance does not mean no maintenance
Concrete can be a practical surface for homeowners who want a manageable care routine. The right routine depends on the finish, site and exposure. Its appeal is a manageable care routine that keeps the focus on enjoying your patio or using your driveway.
Keep the surface clean
Remove loose debris and address spills with methods suitable for the concrete and any coating or sealer. Avoid choosing a strong cleaner simply because it worked on another material. Ask the installer or product manufacturer about compatibility and test a suitable product in an inconspicuous area when instructed.
Watch where water goes
Check for changes around edges, nearby downspouts and adjoining surfaces. If water begins collecting where it did not before, take photos and ask for a review. A cleaning or sealing treatment does not resolve the cause of a drainage problem.
Use a sealing plan matched to the finish
Stamped and other decorative finishes may have specific product requirements. Confirm what was used, how it should be maintained and what conditions are required before another application. Do not apply a new product over an unknown existing treatment without checking compatibility. A calendar reminder is useful, but the actual product guidance and surface condition should drive the decision.
Inspect after the seasons change
Look for surface changes, new cracks, uneven transitions or damage along edges. Keep a few dated photos so you can describe changes over time. Ask about snow removal and winter products appropriate for your surface. Fresh concrete and older concrete may require different precautions.
Know when to ask for help
A small change is easier to explain when you have a clear photograph and know when it appeared. Send the project type, approximate age, finish and the concern. For a new AMGS project, ask for care and return-to-use instructions before the job is complete. Browse our concrete services or contact August to discuss work at your home.
